Does anyone have any tips for small businesses looking to implement ERP software?

Answer

I would say the main piece of advice I would give you, would be to assess what functionality you want from ERP and fix a budget which you want to spend. Just stick to those two simple steps and you probably won’t go wrong.

To expand on the above answer, the consensus for budgets is that a little under 1% of revenue should be spent on IT. This, of course, should be averaged over a number of years and encapsulate all IT costs - salaries, consultancy, hardware etc. With regards to functionality, beware of scope creep, decide what you want, how much you want to spend and do not budge.

A further piece of advice would be to not be afraid to talk to ERP vendors. The more you talk, the more you will understand your ERP options allowing you to make decisive and confident decisions.
