Aptean Fresh Produce ERP is an industry-specific solution built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central to tackle the operational realities of fresh produce businesses. It handles grower accounting, grade-out and pack-out pricing, certification tracking, traceability, and supply chain management, all areas where general-purpose ERP systems frequently fall short.

Built as a successor to Produce Pro

Aptean Fresh Produce ERP is the direct successor to Produce Pro Software, one of the most established platforms in North American produce technology, with roots going back to 1990.

Aptean acquired Produce Pro in July 2022, adding it to its broader portfolio of food and beverage ERP products. The launch of Aptean Fresh Produce ERP in July 2025 on D365 BC added to the core produce-specific functionality that Produce Pro customers built their operations around, now running on a cloud-native architecture.

On top of the native Microsoft 365 integrations, Aptean has also built in integrations with its own transport management, EDI, e-commerce, and business intelligence tools, so businesses that need those functions don't have to stitch together third-party solutions.

Key features

• Produce-specific financial management: The system includes grower accounting and supports pricing based on grade-out and pack-out results — a method standard in produce that most horizontal ERPs don't support without heavy customisation.

• Traceability and compliance: Given the shelf-life pressures and food safety requirements for fresh produce, lot-level traceability is central to the system's operation. Certification tracking for organic, GAP, and similar standards is built in rather than bolted on.

• SCM and inventory management: The platform handles the receipt, storage, and shipment of short-shelf-life goods, with tools to manage waste risk, supplier relationships, and fluctuating market prices — all of which create more complexity in fresh produce than in most other distribution sectors.

• AI-assisted insights: Aptean has added AI-powered analytics to the platform, surfacing patterns across purchasing, sales, and inventory data.
